Description
cars are speeding on Whitaker Mill rd since it it a 2 lane rd. There are no speed limit signs and nothing to slow traffic. It is difficult to cross Whitaker Mill Rd. due to the speeding traffic and no crosswalks. It is about 3/4-1 between traffic lights. It is also difficult to turn into you driveway because cars fly up behind you and don't notice that you are stopped (event though a blinker is used). It is assumed that parking is not allowed on Whitaker mill rd at anytime. Contract workers therefore park on the sidewalk instead of the street forcing pedestrians to walk in Whitaker Mill Rd. The situation is getting worse and I expect it will continue to worsen with the increase of business on Whitaker Mill Rd.

When you see cars parked on the sidewalk, please report it immediately by phone (not through SeeClickFix) to the RPD non-emergency number 919-831-6311.
If you could be more specific about where you feel there is a lack of speed limit signs, we will advise Public Works.
Thanks!

Thank you for following up. I have called the police many times about the contractor's trucks parked on the sidewalks and have also talked to the contractors directly. It is an on going problem. They say there is nowhere for them to park while working on the houses. They think you are not allowed to park on Whitaker Mill Rd. at all. They are also afraid that they or their trucks will get hit because of the speed of cars.
There are no speed limit signs or traffic calming things located on the East section of Whitaker Mill Rd. That is where Whitaker Mill is 2 lanes, between Reaves Drive and Wake Forest Rd.
I was almost hit twice this weekend crossing Whitaker Mill Rd. with my dog.

Whitaker Mill rd is still a problem and has not been addressed. I almost got hit trying to cross the street AGAIN. I noticed that speed limit signs were put up on the west end of Whitaker Mill Rd and on Georgetown but still no spell limit signs and nothing to slow the traffic on East Whitaker Mill Rd. The traffic and speeding is worse.
I noticed that this problem has been being reported for over year now.

The only short term solution to speeding is consistent enforcement (which Raleigh doesn't really do a good job of). Speed limit signs won't solve any problem.
The problem is just a lack of general courtesy while driving among people (and distracted driving)

One thing that I would like to see is East Whitaker Mill Road between Pine and Wake Forest be reduced to 2 lanes (1 in each direction), with bike lanes and a planted median in between. There's rarely enough traffic that uses all 4 lanes so a streetscape project would be a good idea in that section.
Not sure what other people think about that but I think that would be a perfect place for something like that.
